- A Celebration Of The Spanish GuitarA Celebration of the Spanish Guitar brings warmth and colour to the Barbican in a concert with Andalucía at its heart. In music inspired by tradition and suffused with lyrical melody, the lustrous tone and rhythmic energy of the guitar capture the sounds and sensuality of Spain in a way no other instrument can. While dramatic excerpts from Bizet's Carmen and Rossini's spirited Barber of Seville overture vividly evoke the Spanish scene, the heart of the concert is one of the world's most popular concertos: Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, a creative fusion of folksong influences and imaginative orchestration. Rodrigo's Fantasia para un Gentilhombre gives 17th-century themes a fresh and inventive twist, with Torroba's lively Sonatina completing the programme. Soloist Rolando Saad displays his mastery of the guitar and virtuoso performance technique; the St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Fuat Mansurov, from Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, hailed as a Russian Karajan for his experience and musical insight. With captivating music and outstanding performers, the concert reflects Spain both ating journey through Iberian music.

Переслать - Ravi Shankar - Ravi ShankarRavi Shankar is the 20th century's most famous player of the complex stringed instrument known as the sitar. The 1950s were possibly Shankar's most creative period: he composed and performed, worked as musical director of All-India Radio in Delhi, created the Vadya Vrinda Chamber Orchestra, scored films (most notably the Apu Trilogy of director Satyajit Ray) and began touring the world and winning acclaim for himself and for Indian music. In the 1960s Shankar grew still more famous for his influence on The Beatles, who used a sitar in some of their more psychedelic tunes. (Shankar was particular friends with George Harrison, who produced some of Shankar's later albums.) As years passed Shankar became known less as a performer and more as an elder statesman of world music. In 2000 he was given the French Legion of Honor, and in 2001 he was awarded an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II.
