Lady GagaSunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards were dominated by Lady Gaga, who won eight of the moon men statues for which she was nominated, including Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Best Dance Video, Best Editing and Video of the Year for “Bad Romance” and Best Collaboration for her duet with Beyonce, “Telephone.” Other winners included Eminem, who scored Best Male Artist and Best Hip Hop Video for “Not Afraid”; Justin Bieber, who earned the Best New Artist moon man; and 30 Seconds to Mars, who won the Best Rock Video award for “Kings and Queens.” Lady Gaga also announced that the title of her upcoming album will be Born This Way.[Independent.co.uk]

Last year’s big VMA story, Kanye West’s interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, continued in this year’s ceremony. Swift performed “Innocent,” a new song inspired by the incident that seemed to offer forgiveness, while West also debuted a new song that included the lyrics “I always find something wrong/ You been putting up with my sh*t way too long.” [MTV.com]

Late ’90s/early 2000s indie-rockers the Dismemberment Plan are reforming for an early 2011 tour. The east coast dates coincide with the deluxe reissue of the band’s finest moment, 1999’s Emergency & I, which will hit stores on January 11 and features four bonus tracks. This is the second time the band has reunited since they broke up in 2003, and while they have no plans after this tour, bassist Eric Axelson said in an interview with The Washington Post, “We’re not planning a new record. But we’re doing these shows and taking it day to day after that.” [Pitchfork.com]

Also on the 2011 horizon: Veteran post-punks Gang of Four will release Content, their first album of new material in 16 years. The band funded the album through fan donations to PledgeMusic; the album will come in CD and LP versions, as well as the Ultimate Content Can, which includes a book, a scratch-and-sniff booklet and samples of the members’ blood. Mogwai will also release a new album in 2001, but on a different label than their earlier work. After a decade-plus on Matador Records, the band has moved to Sub Pop for their U.S. home; the group’s own label, Rock Action Records, will continue to release their music in Europe. [FactMag.com]

Pioneering industrial group Einstürzende Neubauten will celebrate their 30th anniversary by touring this fall and winter. Along with European dates, the band will also play shows in five North American cities, including two dates apiece in New York and Los Angeles. [BrooklynVegan.com]

Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott will release his own beer, which will be bottled by Dublin’s Porterhouse Brewing Company and served in their bars. Elliott said, “Over the years I've noticed a lot of musicians putting their names to a variety of wines etc which, as nice as a glass of red or white is, well, it's not very rock and roll is it?!” [TheDailySwarm.com]
