  • TV On the Radio – Nine Types of Light: exclusive album stream

Dear Science was the Guardian's favourite album of 2008 – but what do you make of the follow-up?

In 2008, TV On the Radio pulled out all the stops with Dear Science, a record that did more interesting things with guitars than any other since OK Computer. We named it our album of the year and so did many other publications (MTV, Pitchfork, Horse and Hound).

The follow-up, Nine Types of Light, is a more relaxed affair – possibly because it was recorded at Dave Sitek's LA home with BBQ and ping pong every day, and possibly because this is a band who feel they've earned the right to take their time over an album and enjoy making it a little bit more. The classic TVOTR sound is still here – cosmic soul, falsetto, shards of guitar – but the mood is mellower and they're not scared to tackle the humble love song.

You can read a full review of the album in Friday's Film&Music or check out an interview with the band in Saturday's Guardian Guide. But for now, here's the exclusive album stream – have a listen and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

  • Panda Bear - Tomboy: album stream

Four years after the awesome Person Pitch, Animal Collective's Noah Lennox unleashes more psychedelic sounds

Tomboy is the fourth album from Panda Bear, aka Animal Collective's Noah Lennox. In a departure from his trademark sound, Lennox swaps sample-heavy methods for a White Stripes inspired "guitar and rhythm" approach – which is unlikely to alienate many fans. The reverb-drenched sound remains, however, creating a psychedelic backdrop for Lennox's pretty, repetitive melodies and provides a fitting follow-up to 2007's Person Pitch or Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion. Let us know if you agree in the comments section below.

  • New music exclusive: Badly Drawn Boy – Is There Nothing We Could Do?

To promote the Manchester Aid to Kosovo charity album, Badly Drawn Boy performs this elegiac acoustic track

Today, Manchester Aid to Kosovo releases its new charity album, Ten. Released to mark 10 years of Manchester artists raising money and awareness to support some of the worst affected areas in Kosovo, the album features a host of musicians, from established acts – Elbow, Doves, Stephen Fretwell and Cherry Ghost – to emerging talent such as Liz Green and Magic Arm. In this exclusive acoustic session filmed last week in Platt Fields Park, Badly Drawn Boy – a patron of the charity – performs his elegiac 2009 track, Is There Nothing We Could Do?

Badly Drawn Boy will also headline two fundraising gigs, in Manchester (4 April) and London (7 April). For more information on how to buy the album and concert tickets, click here.
