Toby KeithCountry star Toby Keith is atop Billboard’s Hot 100 album chart this week with the release of his 15th studio effort, Bullets in the Gun. Having sold 71,000 copies in its first week, Bullets in the Gun moves past last week’s number one, Kenny Chesney’s Hemingway’s Whiskey, which saw 65,000 copies sold. This is Keith’s 11th number one Hot 100 album. [Billboard.com]

  • Video of the Day: Ciara, "Gimmie Dat"

Even though the first line of the song is “I’ve been gone for too long/think it’s time to bring it back”, it’s only been a year and a half since Ciara’s last album Fantasy Ride. I can see her point, it does seem like forever somehow. While this song isn’t the best thing she’s done by a long shot, it is a pleasant enough club jam with some window-rattling bass and a tough as nails vocal. It does have me excited for her upcoming album, so mission accomplished. She does probably need to fire her stylist, though. Her getup at the start of the video is ridiculous!

Solomon BurkeR.I.P. to two very different, but equally great talents: The “King of Rock and Soul,” Solomon Burke, and Australian soprano Joan Sutherland. Burke, who penned soul classics including “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love” and “Cry to Me,” died early Sunday morning at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport at age 70. Burke’s gospel-inspired sound influenced Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and the Rolling Stones among others. Though he recorded his last album for Atlantic Records in 1968, his career underwent resurgence in the 200Os, when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and won his first Grammy in 2003. Burke’s final album, Nothing’s Impossible, was released this April.
Sutherland, who was known as “La Stupenda” at the height of her career and was Maria Callas’ successor as the most celebrated soprano in the world, died at her home in Switzerland at age 83. She began singing at the Royal Opera House in 1952 and did so until her final production in 1988, but it was her performance in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1959 production of Lucia di Lammermoor that made Sutherland a star. Said Royal Opera House music director Antoino Pappano, “what she did for bel canto music and its technique cannot be underestimated. We have lost one of the true greats.” [RollingStone.com, Guardian.co.uk]

Keke Palmer, Raven-Symone and author Ilanya Vanzant are some of the other honorees. The show will air on BET on November 7, making it the first one to be broadcast nationally. [AOLNews.com]
