Crosby, Stills and Nash are recording their first album in a decade. Producer Rick Rubin, the go-to man when reinventing veteran artists, has been working with the group on a batch of classic rock covers, including “Norwegian Wood” and “Ruby Tuesday.” Although there’s no talk of Neil Young rejoining the lineup, the four musicians are still collaborating on a live album taken from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’s 1974 tour. The live disc, which features multi-track recordings from nine different concerts, will be released in 2011. No release date for the covers album has been announced. [Guardian.co.uk]

Also collaborating on a new album are first-time duet partners Billy Bragg and Rosanne Cash, who will record with producer Joe Henry and release the results next year. [Billboard.com]

Electric Light Orchestra cellist Mike Edwards, who played with the band during its first three years, died on Friday in a freak accident. Edwards had been driving in Devon when a 315kg bale of hay rolled down an adjacent hill and struck his vehicle, killing him instantly. He was 62. [DigitalSpy.com]

John Mellencamp’s latest release, No Better Than This, debuted at number #10 last week. This makes it the only mono album to crack the Top 10 since 1964, when James Brown reached the same position with Pure Dynamite! Live At The Royal. [Yahoo.com]

Nearly 30 years after shooting John Lennon, Mark David Chapman is up for parole one more time. Chapman is currently serving a sentence of 20 years to life for Lennon’s murder, and he’s been denied parole every two years since becoming eligible in 2000. [Billboard.com]

Rihanna will release Loud, her fifth studio album in six years, in November. The record’s first single, “Only Girl (In the World),” premieres tomorrow. [NME.com]

After sharing the same bill at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco, My Morning Jacket and Levon Helm will rub shoulders once again, this time at one of Helm’s Midnight Ramble sessions in Woodstock, NY. The October 16th concert is sold out, although tickets are still available for the October 9th Midnight Ramble, which features alt.country icon Steve Earle. [Spinner.com]

After performing a handful of shows with his new band, Jane’s Addiction, former Guns N’ Roses member Duff McKagan has left the lineup to focus on his own project, Loaded. This leaves Jane’s Addiction without a bassist yet again. Although the rest of its original lineup remains intact, band has cycled through five bass players since 1985, including an extremely short stint with Flea in 1997 and several multi-year appearances by founding member Eric Avery.
