Singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles has nabbed her first ever number one record with this year’s Kaleidoscope Heart. Having sold 90,000 copies in its first week according to Nielsen Soundscan, the album bests Bareilles’ debut, Little Voice, which peaked at number 7 in 2008. [Billboard.com]Rootys ’90s pop-rockers Hootie & the Blowfish are getting a monument erected in their honor in the band’s hometown of Columbia, South Carolina, on October 21. The steel and black granite sculpture is said to measure 20 ft long and at least 12 ft high, and will be placed in Columbia’s Five Points neighborhood near the University of South Carolina, where the band members attended college. Next year marks the 25th anniversary for the Blowfish, who have not performed together regularly in several years. Lead singer Darius Rucker, who successfully switched to a solo career in country music, will release his second country effort, Charleston SC 1966, on October 12. [Billboard.com]

Jack White has announced his plans to release the next Dead Weather single, “Blue Blood Blues,” as a Triple Decker Record. Invented by White, the record features a 12-inch version of the single embedded with a previously unreleased 7-inch single that can only be listened to once it is removed from the 12-inch. James McCartney, the son of Paul McCartney, is set to release his first EP. The 33-year-old son of the famous Beatle has played several shows this past year and plans on releasing his debut EP, titled Available Light, on September 21st.
