Miranda Lambert leads this year’s crop of CMA nominees with five potential awards, followed closely behind by Lady Antebellum and the Zac Brown Band. Only the first round of CMA Awards nominations have been announced, though; the remaining nominees will be revealed tomorrow morning on Good Morning America. The CMAs will air live from Nashville on November 10th. [Billboard.com]
When the Emmys aired on Sunday night, the event was broadcast simultaneously across the U.S., marking the ceremony’s first live-on-both-coasts showing in several decades. The Grammys, currently scheduled for February, may be the next awards show to embrace that format. [Variety.com]
When Paul Weller entered the recording studio earlier this summer, he recruited Noel Gallagher to play drums on several songs. “He’s a great drummer,” Weller said of the Oasis guitarist. “He always keeps it fat and funky.” No word on whether or not the recordings will be released. [Spinner.com]
Mark Ronson has been working on D’Angelo’s long-awaited third album, which is tentatively titled James River and scheduled for release later this year. If it arrives as planned, James River will be D’Angelo’s first album in 10 years. [Guardian.co.uk]
Although Glee released three number one albums in the past year alone, the show’s cast members haven’t been receiving many royalty checks. “I got 400 bucks from [Glee: The Music - Journey to the Regionals] going Number One,” actor Corey Montieth said in a recent radio interview. “But you know what, that’s OK, because if I’m patient, and if this thing does really well, maybe I’ll see another 400 bucks.” The royalty checks, or lack thereof, are also rumored to be the reason that Matthew Morrison signed with another label for his upcoming solo debut, which will be released later this year. When Caribou played the ATP New York festival last summer, they recruited 15 supplementary musicians to play with them, including Sun Ra Arkestra bandleader Marshall Allen, Four Tet’s Kieran Hebden, Koushik, Born Ruffians’ Luke Lalonde, five horn players, and a total of four percussionists. One year later, the show is being packaged into a double-disc live album and sold during Caribou’s fall world tour, which kicks off this weekend. [Pitchfork.com]
Переслать - Video Jam of the Day: The Biters – Hang Around
You’d think it would be too hot in Atlanta to wear leather jackets and have long rock & roll hair, but apparently you’d be wrong. See, that’s where the Biters call home and these guys are 1977 to the core. Sporting threads that are painfully punk from the tattered Chucks to the lapel full of badges, hair that’s bottle-black, and guitar riffs the Boys would have been lucky to stumble across, these guys are 4real. Much like the dearly departed and much missed Exploding Hearts, they have huge hooks that sound tough on the outside but are pure teddy bear on the inside. Punk with a heart of gold. Sure, you could just go back and listen to your Undertones, Boys or Buzzcocks records but to be honest, haven’t you worn them out by now. Why not try something new? Why not admit that today’s music doesn’t all blow? Give the Biters a tumble and they may just rock your world!
They have two EPs out this summer, The Biters and It’s Okay to Like the Biters, which you can buy here. In case you’re the type who likes to listen before you buy, check out this video:

It was a surprisingly musical Emmy Awards show on Sunday night, and not just because Glee was up for a bunch of awards (but only Jane Lynch snagged a much-deserved one for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy). Host Jimmy Fallon performed songs introducing each style of show and delivered a musical tribute to departing shows 24, Lost and Law & Order. The show’s opening sketch, however, might have been its finest moment: Fallon was joined by Glee’s Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Amber Riley, as well as Betty White, Tina Fey, Jon Hamm and more in a pitch-perfect, all-singing and dancing performance of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run.” [Idolator.com]
The Reading and Leeds Festivals took place last weekend, with acts including Guns N’ Roses (who arrived on stage an hour late), Yeasayer, and Queens of the Stone Age representing at Reading, and LCD Soundsystem, Blink 182, the Arcade Fire and Limp Bizkit performing at Leeds. The Guardian offers the high and low lights of both shows. [Guardian.co.uk, Guardian.co.uk]
Lil Wayne is still one of the busiest men in hip-hop, even if he’s currently in jail. To celebrate his scheduled release on November 5, his new album Tha Carter IV will come out the same day he does. [ConsequenceofSound.net]
A devoted Beatles fan spent over $15,000 on a toilet that once belonged to John Lennon during an auction that took place on Saturday. The water closet was originally installed in Lennon’s Tittenhurst Park estate in Berkshire England, but the former Beatle gave it to a contractor in 1972. The toilet, which has blue flowers painted on it, was expected to sell for about a tenth of its final price. [Spinner.com]

During the awards ceremony, Swedish singer Robyn performed Bjork’s “Hyperballad.” [AOLNews.com, WeArePopSlags.com]

Переслать - The Melancholy Summer Jams 2010
Summer isn’t all beach parties, BBQs and cruisin’ with the top down. Sometimes all the sun, fun and good times gets you down and you need to curl up with something in a minor key. There were a handful of great songs on the airwaves this summer that had some tears mixed in with the sunscreen, and while they don’t really qualify as “jams”, they did make the blue summer days feel a little brighter. We’ve got another dispatch from the summer of B.o.B.; Jason Derülo only semi-convincingly boasting about how great it is to be single again (why do you need sunglasses to cover your eyes before you go out then, tough guy?); and Drake proving that if the rap game doesn’t work out he could still be a really good R&B singer.
