Переслать - Comeback Week: Edwyn Collins – Losing Sleep
It seems like only yesterday that reports of Edwyn Collins‘ dire, near-death condition shocked his fans into week-long Orange Juice and solo Collins listening jags. It was really over five years ago that he suffered first a stroke and then a super-infection that left him unable to speak, much less sing. Not one to go down without a heck of a fight, Collins re-learned it all and a couple of years ago began playing live again to the absolute joy of, well, just about everyone. He releases his first post-illness record Losing Sleep next week on Heavenly in the U.K., and if the title track is anything to go by, it’s going to be classic Collins. Great tunes, stirring performances, a whole bunch of old and new friends helping out (Johnny Marr, the Drums, Ryan of the Cribs, Alex and Nick of Franz Ferdinand, and Roddy Frame), and most importantly, Collins’ ruddy miracle of a voice. He’s not coasting along on goodwill and memories, though he’s certainly earned that privilege — his voice has all the soulful punch and growl it’s always had. Check the video for “Losing Sleep” for stunning proof!
