- News Roundup: 7/13/2010
According to Jason Bonham, Led Zeppelin came “real close” to reforming the group without frontman Robert Plant, even working on new material for one year before pulling the plug. Bonhan, whose father’s death in 1980 effectively broke up the band, began playing with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones in late 2007, when the group came together for a one-off benefit gig in honor of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. [NME.com]Now that Bono is on the mend, U2 has rescheduled the 2010 leg of its North American tour. The U.S. shows, now slated to begin in 2011, will stretch from late May to late July, with a European tour scheduled to follow. According to Aussie radio station Triple M, the band will also play several shows in Australia. [ABCnews.com]
With U2 currently off the road, though, 2010 continues to be a lackluster year for the concert industry. Ticket sales are markedly down, and the first six months of the year brought in $200 million less than the first half of 2009. [Variety.com]
Lilith Fair 2010 has suffered 11 cancellations and the departure of co-headliner Kelly Clarkson, but the festival is still getting positive reviews. Billboard caught Lilith’s recent stop in Irvine, CA, where founder Sarah McLachlan and festival rookie Miranda Lambert stood out from the female pack. [Billboard.com]
Tuli Kupferberg, a former Beat poet who went on to co-found psychedelic folk outfit the Fugs, died yesterday at the age of 86. Kupferberg’s health had started to rapily deteriorate last year, when a pair of strokes left him partially blind and in need of around-the-clock care. [RollingStones.com]
More than two decades after her first number one album, Kylie Minogue has returned to the top of the U.K. charts with Aphrodite. Eminem’s Recovery, which held the top position for the past two weeks, is now sitting at number two. [Billboard.com]
Following the completion of their current tour in December, Muse will take a short break before reconvening to work on a new album. The group, whose popularity hit an all-time peak after The Resistance appeared last year, hasn’t taken a significant break in nearly a decade. [Spinner.com]

Переслать - Two for Tuesday Video Jams with Olivia Newton-John
A trip to the dentist is never high on anyone’s list of things to do. No offense to any practitioners of the dental arts who may be reading this, but having sharp, metal objects jabbed into your gums ranks right up there with frostbite, going to a baseball game with Lady Gaga, and drowning on the list of things to avoid. However, a dentist with the right stuff knows that soft rock (combined with a lungful of nitrous oxide) is the perfect calming agent. All it takes is the first few bars of Olivia Newton-John’s “Magic” to come wafting out of a radio and sudden serenity ensues; it’s like magic or something.Click here to view the embedded video.
When the appointment is over and the dentist wants you to leave happy, despite the chalky taste of fluoride and blood coating your tongue, playing a little “Xanadu” will have you walking on clouds all the way to your car thanks to ON-J’s candy sweet vocals and ELO’s hypnotic backing. If the best song ever can’t make you feel better, nothing will!

So get on it, dentists! More Olivia = less pain!!
