    Benjamin LeesClassical composer Benjamin Lees died Monday in New York, at the age of 86. Considered one of the great classical composers of the latter 20th/early 21st centuries, Lees grew up in San Francisco and earned initial acclaim in his late twenties. However, it was accolades like his 2004 Grammy nomination for his Symphony No. 5, “Kalmar Nyckel” and his 2009 Grammy nomination for his Violin Concerto String Quartet No. 5 that garnered Lees wider attention.     Journalist Nick Kent is helping Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards pen his memoirs of life in the early ’70s. According to Kent, the early ’70s were a difficult experience for Richards, whose memories of the period are “incredibly gloomy.” Kent says, “Keith broke down in tears several times when he talked about it and turned into a blubbering wreck. It was a bad time for him.” [NME.com]

    American Idol winner Lee DeWyze’s post-win single is garnering middling sales. Coming on the heels of the second-lowest ratings in the show’s history, DeWyze’s cover of U2’s “Beautiful Day” will enter the Current Digital Tracks chart at number 10 with just over 95,000 copies sold, according to early figures from Nielsen SoundScan. That is 25% less than the initial single from last year’s winner, Kris Allen’s “No Boundaries.” [MTV.com]

    Country-pop sensation Taylor Swift will host an extended meet-and-greet party at this year’s CMA Music Festival at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on June 13. Dubbed “Taylor Swift’s 13-Hour Meet & Greet,” the event, which is free and open to the public, runs from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. and will feature a short acoustic set from Swift in the afternoon.
