Hip hop’s favorite incarcerated workhorse, Lil Wayne, has found a new way to spend his time in the slammer. While serving a year-long sentence at Rikers Island, he took to the phone to record a verse for “Light Up Rikers Remix,” a song originally recorded by Drake and Jay-Z. “First off, I don’t need you second-guessing me,” Wayne rapped, his fellow inmates shouting their approval in the background. “Jail is like third base; I’m coming home eventually.” [Pitchfork.com]

Bonnaroo reports continue to filter in from a number of media outlets, including this Top 10 list from Billboard. Look for AMG’s own Bonnaroo coverage later this week. [Billboard.com]

One day before his headlining performance at Bonnaroo, Jay-Z took the stage at Isle Of Wright, capping off the festival’s opening night with a set of energetic hip-hop. For pictures of the Isle Of Wright’s 12th festival — which also featured headlining performances by Blondie, the Strokes, Paul McCartney, and P!nk — head over to NME’s photo gallery. [NME.com]

Tony Peluso, who played lead guitar for the Carpenters throughout the 1970s and early ’80s, died earlier this month in Los Angeles. Following his exit from the group in 1983, Peluso worked as a record producer for Motown and Latin artists, eventually hitting paydirt after partnering himself with Roc an Espanol pioneer Gustavo Santaolalla. He was 60 years old. [Variety.com]

Lenny Kravitz, Mos Def, Trombone Shorty, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and actor Tim Robbins have teamed up to form Gulf Aid All-Stars. The New Orleans-based supergroup recently released a single, “Ain’t My Fault,” to benefit the Gulf Coast’s cleanup efforts in the wake of BP’s oil spill. Recorded during a late-night jam session at Preservation Hall, the single is currently available on iTunes. [Spinner.com]

As if performing with TV On the Radio and producing some of Brooklyn’s most promising indie artists wasn’t enough work, Dave Sitek has now added a solo album to his busy schedule. Karen O, Theophilus London, Holly Miranda, and several of his TVOTR bandmates will guest on the album, which is slated for release in late August. [Guardian.co.uk]

  • The Summer Jams 2010: Breakbot – Baby I'm Yours

The jams this summer have been flying around fast and furious. Let’s take a minute and chill out, lay back, and let the breeze cool us down. Let’s turn (as we often do when a jam is required) to France for some silky smooth disco-fied grooves from the reliably funky Breakbot. On his latest single, “Baby I’m Yours,” he’s helped out on vocals by Irfane and the duo have crafted a love song that Timberlake would eat his little hat for, a jam that Prince wishes he could still effortlessly whip out, a pop song so sneaky and sweet that it should be topping charts worldwide. Oh, well…I guess it’s just hipsters like us who get to bathe in its glorious discoball shimmer all summer.

The video is a beautiful creation too. Made by Irina Dakeva from over 200 watercolor paintings, it captures the fluid grace of the song perfectly.

However, the incomplete libretto will appear in the literary magazine Strange Attractor. In other Gorillaz news, the band’s new single “Melancholy Hill” will be available as a special download bundle on iTunes next month. [TwentyFourBit.com, NME.com]
