Not only is Jack Johnson’s To the Sea his third number one album, its 243,000 copies sold break an eight-week streak of Billboard Hot 200 chart-toppers that have sold less than 200,000 copies. Nearly half of the album’s sales came in the form of digital downloads, making To the Sea the biggest digital seller since the week of January 31, when Hope for Haiti Now had 143,000 downloads. Johnson’s previous studio album Sleep Through Static sold 375,000 copies in its first week of release in 2008. On the Hot 100 singles chart, Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” became the fastest number one single by a Capitol Records artist since Bobbie Gentry’s “Ode to Billie Joe” reached the top of the chart in 1967. Perry and Gentry’s songs both took four weeks to top the Hot 100. [Billboard.com, Billboard.com]

Thom Yorke says the music industry will fall in “months rather than years.” In an interview for a school textbook, the Radiohead frontman advised musicians to self-release their music instead of hoping for a major label contract, adding that the music industry’s collapse will be “no great loss to the world.” [Spinner.com]
Kanye West celebrated his birthday by performing three surprise gigs in three Chicago schools as part of his foundation’s annual Stay in School event. Переслать - The Summer Jams 2010: Sean Kingston & Nicki Minaj – Letting Go (Dutty Love)
Since he came on the scene a couple years ago with “Beautiful Girls” a few years ago, Kingston has been one of my favorite unlikely pop stars. He’s not exactly sexy, he’s got no style, and his style is so lightweight you feel like his songs might drift away like a birthday balloon, yet those songs stick with you like a lingering infection. If you’ve heard “Fire Burning” once, it’ll end up playing randomly in your brain when you least expect it. In a good way. His latest single “Letting Go (Dutty Love)” features, as most songs do, Nicki Minaj dropping some weirdness in alongside Kingston’s sweet as sugar, Auto Tuned, loverboy vocals. It’s the kind of song you may not blast on your car radio for fear of being soft, but it is the kind of song you’ll sing along to real loud if the windows are rolled up.
